The Lake

I drove slowed and pulled over near a lake,

where the water was deaf and blind.

leaves curled and huddled together,

only waiting for the wind to wither.

I threw a pebble into the lake,

cracked the surface to solve the puzzles.

Ravens flew into the picture out of sudden,

filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before.

Loneliness there, and nothing more,

weakness peering, I stood there fearing.

And the only word there spoken was the uttered word, “Brave!”

and an echo murmured back the word, “Brave”,

and I wonder how to be brave?
