2 point checklist to Read effectively like a CEO

To read effectively like a CEO there are 5 things to do before acquiring the book and 5 things after acquiring a book.

A) Before Buying a book
1. Have a purpose for buying a book (eg. I am a recent graduate and need to understand finance so I want a book on that topic)
2. Search best books on that topic (A simple google search will give you the books available on that topic along with their rating)
3. Choose the best 3 books (Wikipedia usually gives a one-paragraph summary on the book you search on google use that to shortlist the 3 books)
4. Search those 3 authors on youtube and watch their talks on that book (Usually what the author speaks in the talk same language is used in the book, so you can know whether the author’s language resonates and connects with you)
5. Keep a check on the number of stories used, theories supported by facts, easy language to be sure whether the content is credible.

B) After buying the book
1. Look at the number of segments (It’s not important to read the books from cover to cover, you can pick any section that you truly want to read and start reading it) [although I recommend reading the initial pages where the author gives what you can expect from this book and some authors even suggest ways to read the book]
2. Read 2–3 stories from each segment. (Some authors tend to put 5–6 stories per segment to emphasize the topic but reading 2–3 stories is enough to get the crux of the segment)
3. Moral of each segment gives the things you can apply in your life. (Some authors give the segment summary at the end so your job is already done by them but some don’t so you have to derive a moral and write it down at the end of the page)
4. Always mark important lines/ phrases in the book with a pencil. (On the top right corner of the page write 2–3 words about what the marking is about, this makes it easier to find when you are searching for it)
5. Keep your phone away while reading. (No distractions, Reserve 1 hr every morning to read. Put your complete focus on reading)
