How I have adapted to Andela Bootcamp Challenges

How I have adapted to Andela Bootcamp Challenges. When it comes to life, adaptability is a key foundation for progress. Change is inevitable and one is needed to adapt to it. Adaptability is the ability that a person can change his or her ways of working and actions in order to suit the changing situation. Being part of Andela boot camp has been a pleasure to me. At the same time, it has posed change, which has brought challenges. Andela expects me to deliver a product at the end of the boot camp. I am expected to work remotely and other times on site. During each working day, Andela expects outputs from me. Andela seeks EPIC values and characteristics from me. From traveling to internet connectivity, from scheduling time to delivering outputs, these arise challenges.

Firstly, time management is an important aspect of life. The first time I was assigned the project, I had to make more changes in my daily routine. In order to deliver outputs, I had to sleep past midnight. I also had to make checkpoints for myself during the day. For instance, I could set that by seven o’clock in the evening I need to be done with logout functionality. This makes me be committed to working on that functionality and tracking my changes. Also, I had to set time to study concepts and time to apply in my project. That made me adopt the two weeks.

Moreover, traveling onsite is one major problem to me. From Rongai (Kajiado county, near Nairobi border) seems far from Roysambu. I understood that the road from Rongai to Nairobi had a lot of traffic jam. In that instance, although I slept late, I needed to wake up and start journey before six o’clock in the morning. Also, traveling evening back home was tiresome and exhausting. There are some cases where I was required by the LFA to provide changes to outputs before ten o’clock in the evening in order to meet expectation. Reaching home past eight p.m, I was forced to continue working on changes without taking a break. Then, eat past ten and extend working past midnight.

The Internet has been one of the major problems to me during the first day on site. My laptop failed to connect to the internet and was worried. We tried all the means with technicians and there was no solution. It was then that I tried to buy bundles from my own money. By understanding that my computer was not connecting to the public wifi, I prepared to buy own data bundles. I come to realize that sometimes even when resources are not provided and I have my own resources that can help, then I can use whatever I have.

Working with new people was a challenge. Although I had worked on a group before, I needed to adapt to new people. I was able to make sure that I learn them and adapt to their style of work and communication. On the first day, I interacted with the people in my group and make sure I understand them. This technique of learning people become important in interacting with people. Working in team is part of a challenge to me but it has helped me understand the need for collaboration.
